Honestly this was super fun and a little messy in every way... I guess in the good way?!

Plot: When Romance Author Hazel escapes to the tiny town of Story Lake hoping for a fresh start and writing inspiration, she instead finds a crumbling house, quirky townspeople, unexpected chaos, and a mission to help save a town that's just as broken as she feels. Along the way, she discovers that sometimes the best stories begin exactly where everything seems to be falling apart.

Thoughts: This book felt like a collection of those real-life moments that have such strong "you couldn't make this shit up if you tried" energy. It left me wondering whether Lucy Score has actually met a sassy eagle or been personally judged by a raccoon, and whether she and her best friend are secretly laughing at all the inside jokes woven throughout the story.

I really loved that Lucy really knows her readers and wanted to high-five her so many times for actively avoiding all the miscommunication and "we don't talk about feelings" tropes by cleverly letting Hazel explain how nobody wants to read those tropes. Thank you. More of that, please.

What I loved most was that beneath all the chaos, banter, and laugh-out-loud moments, there was a genuinely compelling story about saving Story Lake. It gave the novel an extra layer that made me root for the town just as much as the romance, and I found myself becoming oddly invested if everyone could somehow pull off the impossible plan and kick a certain someone's ass!

That said, my biggest struggle with the book was that it occasionally drifted a little too far into wish-fulfilment territory. I absolutely related to pre-Story Lake Hazel: the heartbreak, the depression, the feeling of being stuck, and desperately wanting your life to become something else. I think most of us have fantasised about escaping it all.

But... impulsively buying a house through an online auction? Who just casually has that kind of money lying around? That's where the story lost me a little. But honestly don't mind my jealous self over here!

Overall "Story of my Life" is a super fund and enjoyable book with humor (yes it may be cringe at times and often very messy) but has a level of cuteness that is perfect for summer. Sadly thought there is nothing super unique or emotional that would give me that 5 star feeling.
